May 2025 – Don’t Get Distracted Now, Look Up!

Crystal Sturgill   -

Proverbs 4:25-27 – Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

The spirit of this scripture is a father’s wise instruction. Solomon is speaking many words of wisdom in this text but we pick up where he concludes in Proverbs 4:25. He tells us: let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. Meaning we are to keep our eyes ahead of us. Don’t close our eyelids. Don’t become distracted at this leg of the journey. The wisdom in this text is a reminder that we should Keep. Looking. Ahead.

He then says: ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. We are being reminded that we are to walk one step at a time. Continue to move forward, not in leaps and bounds because “the race is not to the swift”. Each step, as the scripture teaches us, is that His word is a light unto our feet. So Solomon is reminding us to ponder each step. Don’t get caught up in what could be. Don’t get overwhelmed with what now is. Just focus on the steps that you’re taking now and don’t overwhelm yourself with anything more than that. In doing this, know that your way WILL be established. It will be anchored! It will be sure and it will be undeterred.

In the last verse, he says: turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. Don’t go to your right. Don’t go to your left. The path in front of you may seem difficult, you might not understand or you may not see how it will all play out.  Solomon reminds us; DO NOT take a detour! DO NOT take a shortcut! DO NOT try to get off the path that the Lord has placed you on.

Don’t get distracted now, look up. Let’s keep our focus and our eyes ahead of us. Let’s ponder each step, each day and let’s trust the Lord that He’s in every step that we take. God will get us where he’s taking us if we will not get distracted, and look up one day at a time. God will do it!
