June 2025 – The Danger of Knowing

The Danger of Knowing

David stepped on to the battlefield, not as a warrior but as a shepherd.  He was there as a provider for his brothers, caring for them, in a sense as a shepherd.  He heard the taunting of Goliath, and something rose up inside of him.  He didn’t see Goliath, didn’t know anything about him, only that he defied the armies of their God.  David’s advantage was not knowing what was on the battlefield and I’m confident that when he stepped out there, he may have begun to doubt his decisions, but he had already stepped into the battle.

In our lives, there’s a danger of knowing, because knowing can alter our choices.  We can choose off of sight rather than faith.  David’s advantage was not knowing, but WE are determined to know: to know the next step, to know how, to know even the way.  All of these are contrary to the word of God.  Ten spies made the journey up the mountain, but once they saw, they knew what lied ahead.  Knowing caused them to open the door to fear, and fear robbed them of their promise.  Sometimes knowing gives birth to fear, and fear itself becomes the giant, not the actual thing that is in front of us.

With our giants, we imagine the size, the ferocity and the weapon; so, we determine our next step off of what we THINK we know! Many ministries have been derailed, many futures have been extinguished, and many promises have gone unfulfilled because of the danger of knowing and never stepping out in faith.  God shouldn’t have to give us details when He says go. We trust the sovereignty of God, and we submit to the sovereignty of God because we understand that there is a real danger in knowing what lies ahead.  If you’re going to finish this journey, then you need to do so with blinders on.  Choose to trust the voice of God and don’t let your eyes deceive you.  God has never brought His people to a place where He wasn’t able to give them the victory.  Our danger is in knowing and that causes us to stumble.  Trust God with everything, not just in word but in deed even when you don’t want to and you don’t understand, even when you’re afraid and even when you can’t see the way. There’s a danger in knowing, so choose not to know.
